I just wanted to share more pics lol .. This time its a project that Jim Ihavtats29 that's right, this time i'm not calling him Butthead lmao .. Well to those that have seen our new peacock mantis, He decided to built it's very own Canopy for the 10 gallon tank ( untill we upgrade in the future)
Light for it will be a 150watt DE.. along with moonlight. (Thank You Ryan) for the light and ballist. I'm proud of Jim for his hard work this weekend. It
will be stained and then I will post a Finished work.

The inside, Jim will put a glass in between the tank and canopy and cutting a hole at the back to put a cooling fan so it does not overheat the tank

Let us know what you guys think, suggestion's are welcome..
I like it a lot ..

i know the canopy looks a bit tall , thats because it is on purpose i wanted to leave enough space between the light and water i wanted to play it safe , on the inside works i have a 3'' computer tower fan and a new parabolic de reflector housing will be installed along with a 3/4 watt luner light the slot in the back of the canopy is where a piece of 1/4 plate glass will slide in seperating the heat from the light and the water, thanks to just dave for the idea, just need to locate the fan drill out the back , sand and stain .

not to bad for a beginer

Looks good! Beware though, that might be too much light for the peacock. It may make them more prone to shell disease (which can kill them)

ive done some reading on shell disease , it states that strong lighting may cause problems with animals with the disease, and large males are prone to it since they do not molt as often , but having a large enough burrow for the animal it should be ok , i have a 1 1/2 '' pvc burrow for her under the sand with 2 90 deg elbows attached , if the 150 is too strong the ballast will also fire a 70 watt bulb , thanks

started staining yesterday, we went with dark ebony because all the other tanks are black. the first coat did not take too well it looked great in some area's im not sure if its the stain or the birch just does not want to absorb it ,

Agreed. If it's Minwax (which is Should be!), let that stuff about dry. You should be able to rub-out any dark spots with a cotton rags and Mineral Spirits as needed to lighten and even out the coloration.

What are you going to seal it with?

Buthd said that he coated it 2 more coats lol leave it to him hahahaha and it it needsw probably one more then it will be good lol that's what butthead says lol

im not liking the ebony stain , i brushed on a layer and im going to let it completely dry, ill give it a light 320 grit sand to smooth it out a bit and a semi gloss poly coating

um no comment lol ..... kudos on my butthead working really hard on this canopy lol still no comment lol but um haha!! i told you i wanted it Cherry :0P not Ebony .. ugh!!!

Uh Oh! Momma wants a different color!!!!!!!! Looks like you may need to do more than just a light sanding Jim and you probably need to go get that can of cherry stain before Home Depot closes. If it's any consolation, I've had to paint a few rooms more than once. What momma wants...............

lmao well you should have gotten a cherry stand instead of Black so Bleah!! :P you wouldnt have this issue if you did lmao hahahaha
