New protein skimmer overflowing constantly

Hi everyone, I'm getting my 75g reef going and I set up the skimmer in my sump today. It's a Reef Octopus NWB 150 and it's within the suggested water level range. I have the gate valve open all the way, but it's still overflowing constantly. I have the plug removed from the drain so it's really not a big deal since it's just draining back into my sump. Just wondering if this is normal?

Sound like there might be something in the water to make it go crazy like that there is a break in period but if it was me I would try to make a stand to raise the skimmer higher in tell it breaks in.

Yea it is normal. Like mentioned above its "breaking in". Raising it will help or wait it out it will regulate itself.

Close the gate valve just a bit so that your large bubbles at the top stop overflowing into the cup so fast while it's breaking in. You should be able to remove the top without shutting off the skimmer once it's properly adjusted. After break in you can adjust the gate valve if need be but you really want those bubbles at the top to just crown or dome without pouring over the top so you can maintain it without shutting down.
