I am setting up a 90 gal. reef tank and i'm not sure if I can put live sand and all my live rock in at the same time. I would appreciate any advice. I havent had an aquarium for 15 years.

Is the rock going to be pre-cured or cured in the tank? Curing rock in the tank makes for more work and a tank that is pretty yukkeee. Plus it could stink your house up somewhat.

Whether the rock is pre-cured or not does not matter you can put both in at the same time. I don't think it will hurt a thing. I have a 90 reef as well but I used all pre-curred rock and took the rock out of my 46 gallon tank. It made it easy. I put all the sand the rock in at the same time with no problems. If you rock is cured you really will not have a cycle. If you bought it as cured rock depending on the level of cure you could still have a small cycle.

I hope this helps.

Pat

It depends........

If you're curing the rock in the tank, hold off on the sand so you can siphon out waste from the curing.

If it's cured you can put the rock in and add sand right away.

If you're not going to have animals that dig in the sand you can add the sand first and then put the rock on top of the sand.

Definately wait to add the sand. Cured or not, all kinds of junk is going to come out of the rock for the first month. I put the sand in right away and had fun cleaning it out every day.
