Since this is my first post here, I thought I would jump in with a brand new setup and move through the forum as I venture along this journey.
We recently attended the Reef-a-plooza in Cali, looking for a tank with all of the fixings. After browsing all of the excellent frags and setups we happened along SC Aquariums and spoke to them at detail. Their setups were mighty fine and the tanks weren't bad either (if you were there you know what I am talking about).
I went back home Saturday night to do a bit of research on their tanks, and really couldn't find much, at least in the places I was looking. From the little I could find, I didn't see any red flags. So we went back and asked a few 100 more questions, and made the investment.
Three days later (in Phoenix) I had two pallets on my front patio. I received a Dark Cherry stand and canopy, euro braced 120 gallon tank, refugium, pump, filter media, and basic plumbing with bulkheads.
Merry early X-mas to me..... Everything was packaged really well and very protected.
The stand was a beast. 100% solid wood, no scrimping here. It took a bit to get the unit in the front door. We eventually made it through and unscathed. Then it came time for the glass. From the look of it we didn't believe it would be too heavy. Yea Right.... This glass is solid! I had to call in a favor from a friend and muscle the glass onto the stand. All went as planned with advil and cold compresses....
The refugium takes up pretty much the entire undercarriage of the cabinet.
Now that plumbing is not stock. It is project all in itself and one I could use some advice with. While this isn't my first rodeo with salt water setups, the space in this cabinet is somewhat limited and needed to make some modifications to my design I had in my head.
The return is on the left with the connection back to the tank on the right. I have read a number of threads here about limiting 90 degree elbows, but I just don't have the room in the cabinet for the number of 45's needed to make it back to the tank without a spaghetti of PVC. Would any of you have any comments for the design before I lick it and stick it back into the cabinet?
A view of it outside the cabinet.
I will keep going on this thread as I build on as I hope to get some useful advice from those that have traveled before me.
Thanks
