New Seahorse Tank

Hey guys,

I am looking into creating a small, roughly 30 or so gallon tank for my fincee. I would like the tank to have some corals and seahorses only. I was assuming for lighting I would get one of the lunar light compact flourencents. Could someone tell me what other equipment I would need to purchase in order to keep a few seahorses. Also are there any good articles showing what it takes to keep seahorses. Are they difficult, do they require lots of attention, special feeding requirements? Things of that nature. I checked the FAQ's section and did'nt notice anything along the lines of that, sorry if I missed it. Thanks in advance.

i had a brazillian for a while and I loved it...
the only pain was feeding...it was a wild caught so it only would eat live sghost shrimp.

If so you would benefit by having a small tank freshwater set up to keep your ghost shrimp alive for a while...although they don't last long.

i'd also suggest less hiding spots in the sea horse tank so the shrimp can't hide and die before the SH can catch them. it would dirty the water...

If you purchase captive bred seahorses, you can feed them frozen mysis from the start. Seahorses need be kept alone (as in, only with other seahorses and a select cleanup crew) or with very, very docile tankmates. They shouldn't get too much current, not as much as an sps reef tank, for example. They don't need special lighting. They do better when kept at a lower temperature than most tropical fish, about 74 degrees F is good. Also, if you plan on breeding them, a taller tank is better than a shallower one.
