New Skimmer Arrived!

Just got my Reef Octopus Classic 150SS in, got it built and currently going to build a stand for it. Would building a stand out of the egg crates things be able to handle the weight for it? I heard it takes a week to three for it to prime up. Since I only have a small CUC in my DT for now, do I still need to run it or wait until I get fish going?

i would start it up now.. Yes you can use egg crate to hold it up at the level you need . Remember things weigh less in the water and its water level will be the same as your tanks . so will be nearly weightless other then the water in the foam ohh and pump weight of course depending on the model

Doesn't really take any time.

We just got a Reef Octopus Regal 300SSS.

After one night off running full blast in a 10:1 water vinegar mix we put it in the sump.

That night it was pulling dark skim.

Just quick tip for the 150 sss. Set point for water in the skimmer, when I had mine I would run it the Line that is under where it says Reef Octopus I would say about an inch below the cup and would get nice stable globs of foam. Nice skimmer I liked it. I still have it but on the self for know. It does not run like a Cone so don't expect it to, it foams when it needs to and not when it doesn't, so its not like making foam all the time even when there not much to pull. The other thing I like about 150 SSS is the nice turning and mixing that goes on in the chamber, its not violent like many of the cone skimmers just a nice tumbling rolling action so lots of contact time.
