New Sponge... Any Tips or Suggestions?

So I bought my first sponge today. I'm afraid I don't remember the species name. It is bright red and branches into multiple long 'fingers.' Two questions.

* How strong of water flow should I have on the sponge? Should the sponge by shaking about? If it doesn't get adequate water flow, how will I know (e.g. will it die)?

* Are there any general tips that I should know about caring for my sponge?

That is a gorgeous sponge. I know little about them beyond them needing protected from direct air but perhaps this link will help:
