so this is the start of week 3 with my 125. ive got a lot of brown algae growth and would like to cease its existance. my current livestock is, 1 scooter blenny, 1 clown, about 20 hermits, about 20 snails and a peppermint shrimp. so other than a better cleanup crew what would be good for me to do to get rid of this little problem.

most likely diatoms they will go away on their own in a couple of months. almost all new tanks go through this. don't be suprised to see an outbreak of cyano as well.

a lot of it is getting stringy though. i guess kind of like hair algae. i have read that new tanks go through this phase. i just wanted to make sure that i was just in a phase and didnt have a real problem developing.

Cutting your light cycle back would slow the growth and allow your current crew to be more effective. Turbo snails are voracious eaters and would be a good next addition. I would also recommend picking up some emerald crabs to prevent bubble algae; I just lost a bout recently and have to say its the nastiest algae I've come across.

.....and time.

also, make sure you are using GOOD ro/di water.

what kind of lighting?

i have a couple of giant turbos you're welcome to if we can meet up. they're dozers though.
