I have a 208 reef tank and all my fish are healthy, no problems with any fish getting sick, however i just in a COLLARE BUTTERFLYFISH. Got him the tank for a week and a half and started to notice a cotton look on his back fins....its been getting bigger as the past few days have gone by, and now i see new area where the white spots are forming on his body!
Help, it is not ick, that i know......it has to be something else...
I could add a pic if you need it, any ideas?
I have had a tank for 4 years, very healthy system, but this little one bothering me...i dont want my other fish to get sick!
thanks max

J,

I appreciate you not wanting to get your other fish sick. Was this fish put into quarantine before it went into the display? With such a large system (mine is 700 gallons, multiple tanks) there is only one sure way to protect the fish you already have:

Your description isn't clear. Are they spots or clumps? I guess we should see a photo in order for us to be sure what it is you are seeing.

Might it be a lymph infection? The symptoms of this have been described as white cauliflower-type clumps. Some small; some large.

I did keep him in his own tank...and checked out fine!
It looks like cotton on his fin, and i hope not to allow this to spread to my other fish!
i tring up loading the pic...some reason it will not!
let me work on forwarding the pic so you have a better undertsanding!
thanks for the link
