Hi there all, trying to setup a new tank and need some additional equipment. need powerheads, heaters, 48 in lights, an overflow box and return pump, live rock and sand. thanks for all of you help. Let me know what you have.
Thanks for your help, i need a return pump for a 55-75 display tank with apprx a 30 gallon sump, maybe 4 ft of rise. Also forgot to list will need a in sump skimmer. As far as lights would prefer t5 or vho. I think with halides would have to get a chiller?
I have two A/C fans. I think they are 24 volts. But no power supply to run them. But they are loud as heck. Pretty big too. I can get some pictures on Monday.
I recently purchassed a small Current-USA 1/15 hp chiller and it works GREAT not only for ease of mind for chilling but it also conrollers the heater ckt to.
One quick glance at the front display and I know the temp is right on my setpoint of 78.
Above 80 & I notice quite a bit of evap cooling.
Wouldn't the fans just increase the amount of evap cooling taking place?
Thanks for all your help and ideas. Need to see if any one has some spare rock and or sand so that i can start cycling my new tank. Also need a reasonable overflow box with tubing and some tubing for a return pump to get the water back into the display tank. thanks again
Just checked. I suppose if you wanted to plug them directly into an outlet that will work as they run off of standard house voltage. But like I said, they are LOUD. lol
Any one with resonably cheap base rock, live rock, sand? thanks Also for startup should i use ro-di water and if so where would i get a big quantity, ie 60 gallons?
If you can use RODI use it. Your best bet would be to buy an RODI unit. I am sure that someone may have a used on lying around. Otherwise you can probably get water from water 2 go. Also check your mail, there are usually coupons in the Valpack. And I think water to go has a frequent filler program, not too sure though.

I probably am going to do my initial fill up with tap water and then use RO for topoff as well as water changes. But that's just me, plus my RO unit is only 24 GPD, and it will take at least a week to fill my tank.
As far as rock goes. Southwest Reef sales base rock at 2.39 a pound, and Fiji for 4.99. But I think there are some people around that have rock lying around.
How long before you actually fill your tank with water? I will be using all new sand for my 125 so you can have my established sand when I move over, but Im not sure on when that will happen as of yet.
Hey there i have the Genx1500 return pump courtesy of Israel, what sort of flow will i need with this setup it is 55 gallon with a 5 gallon sump/wet dry. The genx1500 pushes apprx 400 gph. Was possibly looking at the koralia pumps, are they worth the price?, but not sure what sort of rate or turnover i need. It will be a reef tank. thanks for yourhelp
I have heard for a reef ( i could be wrong) but 20x BTW the maxi-jet 1200 with sureflow upgrades are 2100 GPH and a whoping 35 bucks. Good cheap power head in my eyes.. A Koralia is like 40+ for less flow..
Minimum flow rate for a reef tank is 10x. But the more is usually better.
I have a koralia 3 I think. If you want to borrow it to see the flow rate on it just shoot me a PM. I am debating on using it in my big tank. But if you are on a budget then I would def go the MJmod route since they are not as cheap.
