New tank.

I am going next Saturday to pick up my new 120 gallon tank. I am getting it from Precision Clarity in Woodstock, GA. It will be 48"X24"X24" and made from 1/2" cast acrylic. The back will be black with slots cut in the back and the overflow on the outside of the tank.
Like this.

I am building a custom aquarium stand/book shelf. I do not have a picture to show yet, but I will take pictures while I am building it. Basically it is a stand/canopy that will be attached to a book shelf. The canopy will be on piano hinges so I can open the top to do maintenance.
Drain will be 1.5" to sump. The sump is 24"X18"X12" with a bubble trap/filter sock compartment. Skimmer and return pump will be in the main sump. There will also be a 20 gallon high tank plumbed into this to act as a refugium. I have a 2 X 65 watt PC fixture that will light the refugium. Water will be pumped into the refugium via a small powerhead and gravity feed back into the sump.
Closed loop will have a 1.5" inlet in the back of the tank, and return through a Velocity T4 pump.
Return pump is only 600 GPH that will run through my chiller and back to the tank through a 1/2" SeaSwirl.
Lighting will be 2 X 250 watt MH using the Lumenarc 3 Mini reflectors.
More to follow.

Nice tank Richard...great idea on the outside overflows...This thread is going to be fun to follow.

What are you going to do with your 90 or are keeping it too? :D

Sell it when the switch is complete. It will be tank, stand, canopy, sump. I will be asking $300.00 for the whole setup, but it will be a couple of months before the new tank is ready for swapping.

Here is the beginnings of the sump and bubble trap.

Oh, yeah...pH and ORP holders too...

nice set up. Are those probes going to be mounted permenetly ? If so, and you lose power you may want to have them so they float, not that they get submerged.

Probes will be mounted semi-permanently...the screw tightens them so they don't move. The probes can be in water up to a certain length on the cord...it is marked "do not submerge past here" type warning. Being that the sump is only 12" tall, the water will never be above that line.

Okay...my ideas about this tank have changed considerably, but I am making some progress. I decided that I really like pendants/hanging light hoods. It allows me to look down into the tank which I really enjoy. So the lighting has changed to a 3' PFO hood with 2 X 250 watt MH and 2 X 95 watt VHO actinics. Here is the hood...

Since the lighting changed, the stand had to make some transformations too. The new stand will be 21" longer than the tank to allow for the chiller to be concealed, and give me more room for reactors, etc. Here is the start to the stand. It will look a lot better next weekend...I hope.

From one end...

The bottom...you can see where I tripled up the front so I don't need a center support...this will make access to the sump a lot easier.

This shows the 3/4" foam that will go under the tank since it is an acrylic tank...

This is the tank stand with the removable extension attached.

I had a friend of mine bend some 3/4" pipe for me to hang my lights from. They will be clamped to the back of the stand and allow the light to be suspended over the tank. I will hopefully have some pictures of that next weekend too.

Oh, yeah....the top of the extension will have a piano hinge along the back of it to allow me to raise the top to get access to the chiller, etc. from the top and from the front. I am trying to make this stand have access from all angles.

lookin good richard! i wish i had the wood working skills you guys have. i cant even build a bench let alone something like that! <~~steve

Looking good man...I like the removable extension idea. Im interested in seeing those light hangers too:)

any info/updates richard? im pretty intrigued with this set-up. also id like to know what youll be doing with the old 90/stand. pm me with the details!thanks!<~~steve
edit: re-read the post and saw you would be selling it. when the time comes id be quite interested. could you link me to some pics of it so i can try to "sell" the woman on the idea in the near future? :)

Update. The 90 gallon has actually already been sold (even though it is still in my house).

I will be doing some more work on the stand, etc. this weekend. I will post more photos during the weekend. I also hope to pick up my tank this Monday. That means a long drive to Georgia, but I know it will be worth it.

that 120 looks like its worth driving to california for, let alone georgia. i hope to see it in person sometime. wish you were getting it this weekend sometime, i wouldve been happy to give you a hand carrying it in to youre house or even co-driving to georgia :) <~~steve

I will try to get pictures tomorrow and post them. Today I finished the 2 other doors, the extension's piano hinged top, attached the pipe that will hold the lights, cut them to the right height and depth, and drilled and installed eye bolts to hang the pendant from. Tomorrow I am painting the pipes black, and will try to get one coat of stain on the stand. After that, all I will have left is poly'ing the stand, and plumbing. Oh yeah...and picking up the tank. I won't be able to get it tomorrow because Precision Clarity will be closed for President's Day.
