New to Clamming

I am still new to reef, and have yet to start a tank. I thought I would read up on it before I make an drastic moves. Anyways how hard are clams to keep, and what are their life span. Also what do they eat? I am just wondering like general information that is important to keeping a clam. I know light was a important factor, and I already bought but not setup 2 x 250HQI. The tank is 48x18x27. I think the lighting should be sufficient enough. I am about to purchase an MR2 skimmer, I am going to wait till holidays pass to see they go on sale. How do clams do with water movement?
