I'm an experienced reefer, I have a 29 gallon tank with all kinds of SPS and a clam, been doing fine for a few years now, but I've never done LPS before.
Well I wanted another tank(one I could use for college in two years) so I decided to build a small one out of acrylic. (I have experience with acrylic, and have built a 12 gallon behind tank fuge for my 29)
I want to build this tank to be as LPS friendly as possible, as it will be solely for LPS.
My plans are to make the tank 24" long, 10"wide, and 8" tall, a total of 8.3 gallons. The left 4" of the tank will be a filtration chamber, similar to that of a nanocube, and will be 1.4 gallons of cheato and LR, maybe a carbon pad(depends if I do a small clown goby for nutrient import)
For flow I'm going to use a MJ900(230 GPH) to pump water out of the chamber via a 1/2" bulkhead, question one:
1) Is this enough flow? Too much flow for LPS? It is about 27x turnover, and in a small tank flow will be bounced off the walls and rock structure.
For lighting I'm going to use a new Nova T5 X2, which is 2x24watts of T5HO, they dont have individual reflectors, though due to the lack in tank height/ LPS corals arent too light demanding brings up my 2nd question.
2) Would this be enough light? Here is a link:

It will be mounted inside a small canopy for a cleaner look, most likely 1" off the water surface
I will keep calcium up with small water changes from my 29 gallon(sps) and an auto top off with kalk.
Im specifically looking to keep frogspawn, hammer, some sort of favia, candycane and some acans.
Any advice or general info would be great. through my research I think this would be the best setup to keep LPS, though since I'm not experienced, I figured I'd double check here.
Thanks,
Mike
