New to nanos, which one is most popular or recommended?

I'll be setting up a simple mixed reef with a few small fishes. Seems to be three or four 12-14gl sizes to choose from. Can anyone walk me thru the pros and cons of a few?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Pangea,
I had the 12 gallon Aquapod and that worked great. The lighting on it was sufficient for the size. Flow was decent and it had three chambers in the back to put whatever you want to filter with.

In my opinion, you might want to get either a 20 gallon or 30 gallon tank to start off with, buy the lighting, and filtration separately. It may cost a bit more than a system with everything already in it...but in the long run, you'll probably be happier getting the larger tank separately.

I had the 12g AP for only 2 months and then dediced I wanted to move up. That's just my 2 cents. Good luck with your nano tank :D

I have one 90 waiting to be et up but my wife wanted me to start a small reef so she bought me an Oceanic 14 I really think the quality is good. Good Luck

Thanks

Thanks

the Eclipse System looks good also with the bio-wheel and lighting. I'm soo new to nano! It seems that these are very similar systems-that's probably why I'm having some overload.

I wouldn't go with the Eclipse the bio wheel is not the best for reef tanks IMO. I have both the Oceanic and Aquapods and really like both of them. Good luck nano's are so much fun.

I have the JBJ 12g Nanocube, I like it, but I upgraded the lights to 96w.

They are all pretty similar. Similar wattage, similar filtration method. I'd ultimately go with whatever is local to you and will give you a chance to look at it before you buy. JBJ Nanocubes and Oceanics should be at many LFSs.

I saw the AP 12g had a recall due to shocks by energized light cord if both were not plugged in? I'll probably go with the JBJ 12.

Thanks all

just buy the newer version by checking the serial label. i prefer the AP over the JBJ anyday, as in i'd rather have an electrical failure than the glass crack.
