New to Reef Tanking

Hi everyone,

My name is David and I live in South Florida. I just got into Reef Tanks a few months ago and have my very first tank up and running in pretty good condition.

Got a few live rocks with Zoo's, Star Polyps, Mushrooms, Ric's, and a couple of Clown fish to go along with a shrimp. It's got a pretty good flow at the lighting is timed perfectly. I'm really happy with it.

I would appreciate if anyone has any tips for a Newbie like me that can help make my 30 gallon tank a good habitat.

Thanks in advance

Patience, and dont let your live stock to die. Read a lot. Do not purschase anything until you are completly sure your water is OK.
Be carefull with overfeeding but also dont starve your animals.
Change 10 to 20% of water a week.
Get a cleaning crue when the algee bloom begins.

Research everything before you buy, that includes dry goods as well. Ask lots of questions here on rc. That is what it is here for, and the people here arnt trying to make money, much like the lfs is. So if you ask....is this skimmer any good.... you will get an honest answer.

the biggest thing is to read and research before buying things. Don't buy a $100 something today, and then after seeing it's results, and reading about why you should avoid it, go and buy the $200 something that works better next week. It will save you money in the long run to be patient, read, and buy good stuff. RC is really a great place to ask questions, check out the local club forums, and find a club in your area. this will allow you to see other people's tanks, and ask questions. plus you might get a frag or two for free. :D

Research research research!!!!

And don't rely on only 1 or 2 sources of information...a lot of this hobby is based on opinion and experience, but what works for one may not work for you.

And, get a QT tank!!!!!! It will save you time, money, and annoyances in the long run.
