New to Reefs. use SPS's?

In the process of setting up a reef tank. This is my first reef but I have had fish only systems in the past. Have decked the tank out with quality components and just about everything people recommend for reefs other than dosing pumps or reactors (which will be added when needed). Bit of an ocd type so maintenance will be done regularly

My lfs has told me to stay away from SPS for a long time yet another one told me that with my set up I should be fine relatively soon after adding a few softies and lps's. Want to know your thoughts? Thanks

A full breakdown of what you have and water test results are needed. SPS aren't as difficult as some think IMO.

lol, the tank was just filled but planning ahead. its a 65 gallon 3' tank. Have a refugium, skimmer, 2- mp10's, controller, auto top off, uv and all generally oversized"¦"¦ Whatever the parameters recommended, I will do whatever is possible to meet them. Been around fish only's to know things happen but I generally maintain the tanks very well. Love sps's but some have had me convinced that it was not in my near term future, thus the question to the forum. I welcome advise

I fully agree. An itemized breakdown of what your system components would make answering your question a lot easier.

I also agree that sps aren't as difficult as some may think. In fact, I find sps to be the easiest type of coral to keep.

There's really no time frame for adding corals to your tank. As long as your water parameters are stable then you should be good to go. I would recommend starting with easy to keep pieces such as montis or birdsnest. You said that you're a bit ocd with the maintenance which is a good sign. The biggest difference in keeping corals vs fish only is the focus with corals is purely on the water quality. Just think of it as not keeping corals or fish but keeping water. You'll want to keep the parameters as stable as possible. If you do that and your equipment is on par your corals will thank you with growth and color.

Also, if you don't want to add softies or lps then there's no need to. You don't have to add these corals to perform quality tests on your water and ability to keep sps.
