Hello everyone! Been a long time lurker and researcher (going on 6 months now) and finally created an account to get some feedback on my proposed build. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
I've had years of freshwater and eco tanks in the past (largest was 250 gallons) but have yet to, unfortunately, take the plunge in to the saltwater tanks, so now's the time! Even though I have a lot of experience with large tanks, we will be moving in about a year or so and want to start with a nano (40ish gallons) for now which will be upgraded when we move.
Overall goals:
40 gallon nano tank to be upgraded to a 100 - 150 gal in about a year / year and a half (after our move). So the goal is to buy higher end gear now that can easily be transitioned to the 100 - 150 when it comes time.
I think I've got most everything figured out for capabilities sake, the tank is going to be a reef tank with live sand and live rock.
Note: The below coral and fish are my "end" goals with this setup and of course will not be just dumped in all at once. The hardware will all be bought and installed from the start.
My parts list:
Hardware:
Nuvo 38
Aquaillumination Sol Lights & Light Rails
Apex Controller
AquaIlluminations to VDM Adapter Cable
Neptune Systems Apex Variable Speed/Dimming Module (VDM) - Primarily to control the AI lights
Hydor Slim Skim Protein Skimmer Nano
Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155
HMO-200 Finnex Heater
50lb Rock
CaribSea Arag-Alive Bahama Oolite Sand 20 Lb (x2)
Coral:
Green BTA
Kenya Tree
Green Polyp Toadstool Leather Coral
Kryptonite Acropora
Atomic Torch Coral
Fluorescent Green Star Polyps
Random Zoanths
Fish:
2x Ocellaris Clownfish (2 year old insists on having "nemo" lol)
1x Blue Tang
1x Yellow Tang
1x Diamond Watchman Goby
3x Red Spotted Cardinal
Cleanup Crew:
2x Emerald Crab
20x Astrea Snails
5x Scarlet Hermits
10x Blue leg Hermits
2x Trochus
For a setup I am going for an "island" type setup with a small bridge and plenty of hiding places in the tank to allow plenty of room for the tangs to move around. All of the fish will be juveniles when I get them (to help prevent overcrowding) as well as I will introduce both tangs at the same time (this will hopefully alleviate any infighting between them).
So thanks for looking and any feedback in advance! These forums have been amazing for my research and hopefully I've dotted all my i's and crossed my t's but if anyone has any feedback please bring it on!!
