New to tanks. Just switched to a new 29 gal tank.

My son had a 5gallon reef tank with a clown, blue damsel, half yellow and pink fish. All the corals had died out and the tank was looking pretty bad. Today I moved everything to new 29 gallon tank. I took out the liverock and cleaned it with an tooth brush. I later found this site and was amazed how poisonous and dangerous these stuff could be. I guess I shouldn't have been moving the rock and sand with my bare hands. Does it matter that I no longer have living corals in my tank?

No need to worry about not having corals. You can do a FOWLR tank - fish only with live rock. If you are worried about coral toxins on the rocks, don't.

The ocean is full of corals, fish and invertebrates that are poisonous.

I think it is a good move on the 29g that 5g was quite stocked. I would keep an eye on the ammonia levels in the new tank and not add anything for a few weeks.

A little more info on the 29g would be helpful. the following is a link that you and your son may find useful. good luck to you both.
