To All,

My name is Nathan Freedy and I am new to the area. I had to move to Marshfield for my job. I recently started a new reef tank and I am looking for local people to ask questions of and perhaps purchase frags. Its great to finally find local people who have a great understanding of this hobby, I am still new to it but have found it to be one of the most rewarding things I have done. Thankyou for taking your time to read this post

Great to meet you....we have a nice little tight group in the area. I have a prop system running and there are a bunch of us in the Wausau area that would be more than willing to help you out.

I really appreciate that. I know its kind of sad, but I already have a question. When I was setting up this aquarium, the local fish store guy sold me on a "freedom filter system". It is a filter and skimmer all in one. I have had the tank running for almost three weeks and it has yet to skim anything out. Any ideas?

I can only guess on it's efficiency.....but it is probably substandard to others....you may not have a large enough bio-load yet or other reasons. You may want to come to wausau and check out my system. While it is not perfect it is rather simple and gets the job done.

Nathan, I'm assuming you probably got the Freedom filter from Scales N' Tails... I would have to agree that it is substandard (I've seen one in action). I'm an employee there and the boss thinks skilter filters and freedom filters and Ehiems are great for a reef tank! PSH!

My advice... take it back.

I'm probably the guy you talked to when you first came to the store. I did not know that he helped you setup recently... in that case you wouldn't happen to grab crushed coral for your substrate as well? Hopefully not.

He knows very little when it comes to saltwater. And I'm personally not going to be working there for very much longer.

Oh and BTW welcome to our club.

Welcome Nathan! Feel free to ask away. And I must make the suggestion to go and see Sticky's tank in Wausau. He tends to downplay his tank but I can assure you that it is absolutely gorgeous!!! and he has some great frags to boot!

Barky,

I am very interested in your skimmer, however I have many questions about it. I dont have a sump for my aquarium so is it still possible to make it work for me. And of course how much do you want for it. And could you give me a good set of instructions on how to use it. The best would be for me to talk to you. I know I have many more questions that I will probably ask. Just let me know how you want to do this. Thankyou very much.

Nathan

Nathan if I'm not mistaken I believe I have the manual to it. I do know the unit costs 299.00 I would like to get half of that as it was used only 6 months.
I could pm you my phone # if you have other ?'s. Brian

Welcome to the club.......

Suggestion on the skimmer - is it foaming at all, and if so, is your collection cup as low as it can go? Seems like a basic question, but when I got my skimmer I forgot to lower the cup on it and didn't collect anything for almost a month.......

Feel free to ask away on the questions, that' s what we're all here for.....
