Hey, welcome to the area. I'm sure Ken will chime in soon and send you a message about the club. He is our president. The club does usually meet during the summer. We are hoping to pull together a trip to Dr. Mac's next month though and your more then welcome to join us.

I started off with FO as well and eventually moved up to reef. Good luck.

Jon(aka Gordonious)

Hey man, what do you do in the AF? Let me know if you need anything for your FO tank, I've got a lot of left overs.

Joe

my job is fuels systems...i fix the fuel tanks and everything associated with it on the planes....but um what do u have as far as "extras" ...let me know or pm me

I was waiting for it...

The Fish Bowl does suck.

I just have some assorted extras. I see your tank is cycling, do you already have rock?

haha i went to the fish bowl the other day and outta there like 40-50 sw tanks if its even that over half were dead...they had a blue tang with some crazy disease it was all but dead...still had a little kick to it...a lion fish dead it was like decomposing...another dead one...it cant belive that place and the lady behind the counter just sat there and was reading a magazine i wanted to choke her and to make it worse they wanted 155 for a seaclone 150 ...u can get em from TFP for 90 bucks...its amazing...i hope they close...ne way is there ne decent fish stores within a short drive form dover...anyone know...im not trying to drive an hour if i dont have to but other then Dr.Macs which i hear is very good but its still over an hour away....and as far as rock goes...im supposed to be getting it off a guy friday outta baltimore for 2.50 a lb for figi...but he just emailed me asking me how much i want cause someone might be coming tonight to get some of it so hopefully he has my stuff or im back to square one

If I had it to do again, I think I'd go for the TBS rock. Check it out before you get too far along. Seems like an easy way to get started on the right foot.

Sorry, TBS= Tampa Bay Saltwater...They ship the rock in water so it has less die off.

Joe

Sorry I've driven up and down the state a million times, visited every LFS, and spent way to much time in the forums. There is nothing anywhere near Dover accept for that dump, Fish Bowl.

The only thing that is about the same distance as Dr. Mac's from you, possibly a little closer, is Just Fish in Newark. I like just fish and think they have come a long way. The prices still aren't great, but you can at times find some nice oddball stuff.

Hey man, meant to tell you while you were here. Ditch the plastic covers on the tank, and just let it go commando. The fish won't jump out, usually.

Good luck!

Joe

true the plastic covers will only trap heat in

ECA is about an hour and 15 from dover and normally always has healthy fish and a good selection of corals.

much better then it did for sure....i set up the canister filter ...currently no media in it yet but it is set up n running...the skimmer took a little while to figure out and get it to work..i used the skimmer cup instead figuring maybe it would help....and i used the zoo-med powerhead...the other one didnt have nething to attach it to the glass so i stowed that one away....but its definately on its way...i got most of the stuff clean pretty well however i tried to leave some on maybe it will help in my cycle? idk but its better then nothing....cant wait to get this LR up and get my tank cycling so i can get some fish in there and head over and get some of them shrooms (and the rest of ur money lol)

I'm very worried about the twenty bucks. jk Anyway, glad to help. If you can't stick the powerhead to the glass, just tuck the wire under the filter or something. Or, buy some suction cups, but I find they usually stop working after a bit anyway. Your call. I think you'll be fine with that setup until you're ready to switch to corals. Good to meet you,

Joe

Oh, btw make sure that the skimmer cup is low enough that the water evaporation doesn't cause the water level to fall below the cup. Otherwise you end up losing siphon, and burning out your pump. You may have to top off with fresh water a little more often without the top on, but probably around two gallons a week. Just a guess.

Hi Emo! Welcome to the wonderful world of reefing in Delaware. I hope you have a chance to join us at the monthly meetings when they resume after summer break, in September. We have a some what small, but friendly club that's growing. we meet up north, but as you see also have many members and reefing friends in central Delaware too. There is always someone to help on the forum.

I use a seclone 100 on my 75 reef. it works fine in the sump. it's also small enough to fit in my little tidepool sump and under the stand. If you need something, equipment or looking for fish or frags, the forum is always a good place to start. somebody just might have something sitting in the closet or to sell or trade, or give away. can't hurt to ask. we always have frags. one of these days i need to thin out some red and blue schrooms. they keep growing over things.

I'm glad you found our forum. and can keep in touch. and if you want to join the club , we adjusted the dues down a bit last year. the exact amount eludes me at the moment. Thanks for the heads up. Our web master, Ronert, is doing a great job of making the site user freindly and informative. And it's looking pretty good too! I'll have to provide him with the current info to post.

Meanwhile, welcome to the DRC Forum and we hope to meet you in the fall. It sounds like you have a good start on the fish only tank. but you might want to consider a syphon over flow unit with a filter sump below the tank. it makes for better water, clears the surface water , and aerates the water , and provides a space for the skimmer and filter media out of site.

enjoy
Ken
