Hi all, saltwater n00b here. I want to turn the 90 I have into a predatory tank. I was at the LFS and they have a silver and black striped fish, he said it was a grouper from the Sea of Cortes and $125. Anyone heard of such a fish? I bought a 125g sump today and a 950gph pump and everything. As far as lights what do I need? No coral so would florescent lights work? I want to make this setup nice and colourful so any ideas or opinions are welcome. Before this I kept snakeheads, pike cichlids, big catfish, arowana, etc etc. Had tanks from 20g-450g.

Make sure you get plenty of live rock and a good skimmer. I also like the looks of artificial corals in a fish only tank, but that is up to you. Florescent lights will be fine. Most of the big predators are pretty hardy so that is a good way to start. Make sure you cycle your tank first (usually takes a month or two), don't add fish right away.

Was the fish this?

If so $125 sounds like a lot for this fish, should run around $40.

Do some more research before you jump in, you will be happy you did. Glad you are looking here on ReefCentral though, SOOOO much information here.
