New "way" upstate club...

Hey guys,
Well living way out in God's country, 2 1/2 hours or a $20 ferry ride to VT, away from the the nearest reef club, I decided to put up a few flyers at our LFS's and try to start a club based in Plattsburgh. 8-10 people have expressed interest so far but so far only about 5 are actively posting on the forum I created on RC. I invite all of you to check it out and post freely.

Norther New York Reef Society (NNYRS)

NNYRS Forum:
NNYRS

I created a website as well, it's lacking in content right now and most of the pages simply link to an "under Construction" page, but it's a start. I welcome suggestions of any type. Consider it a work in progress.

Let me know what you think, I consider myself only an adequate web developer, so there is a lot of room for improvement. But it's a start.

NY Ben,

your web site looks great and I commend you for taking the initiative to create a new Reef society which is hard work, I am sure!

Congrats,

Nice start Ben, I hope all goes well for you. It will be nice to have a another club close. Hopefully if the future both club can get together for a frag swap or something. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. I would definatley like to get the clubs together at some point. Although it will likely be a while before we're organized enough to manage that. I'll know more after our first meeting which I hope to have early April. Maybe once it's up and running smoothly, we could try to find an LFS in Glens Falls / Queensbury area, to set up a frag swap/meet. This way neither group is traveling as far and hopefully the attendance would reflect it.

Thanks again,
Ben

NYBen,

Starting a group will take time. Hey for the first year of this group, their was only a hand full of people who made the meetings. And when I say handfull I mean 5 - 6 people max.....

Good luck, and keep us up to date.

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured to be the case. I sit back at my LFS and see people coming and going buying fish and coral. I personally know of 3 exceptional tanks in the greater Plattsburgh area (two 220 in wall mixed reef setups, and an amazing 300gal custom acrylic with 300 gal sump), yet no one trades frags or used drygoods. I have spoken with two of the three gentelmen that have these tanks, and they expressed great interest in a club. They however are not computer people likely to frequent the forums, but they offer great places to hold meetings, so that's my next step. If I can get 6-8 people together for a first meeting I would consider it a success.

Thanks again for the words of encouragement!

Ben
