New Yuma Trouble

I just got in three yumas from an online vendor and two of them were upside down in the bags. One of them was in a hollow and escaped some rubbing. The other was on a large rock and took the brunt of the weight. Polyps were abraded and the bags stank horribly. Rather than try to acclimate them I went straight to the clean water. All I can say is grrrrr.

It's bad enough you can't get them to acclimate easily but then you have to put up with that kind of crap. The horribly maimed one was on a rock almost as big as the bags bottom so you have to ask yourself how it managed to wind up upside down unless it started there.

That sucks man, I always fear yumas being shipped on larger rocks. Wither they started out like that or not they can still end up like that depending on how they are stacked on skids with the shipper. Who knows how they get thrown around......Where did you get them from? Have you contacted them about it?

No Azz, I haven't contacted them. What can you say. Like you said who knows how they get thrown around. You can't prove anything. The one that was seriously abraided ate some food right away. I might lose the other big one. I just have that gut feeling juding from it's posture and behavior. I ordered a generic purple one to round out a three yuma order and they sent me an orange/green one instead. It was bluezooaquatics. I'm going to take my loss's if they happen and call it another lesson learned. I've been thinking about trying your aqua sd. I'll keep an eye on them and see if I can snag anything cool down the road. You say they have good service?

I just cut some krill after lights were out for an hour or so, the yuma that took all the damage ate a chunk greedily. He's got one little squiggle poking through the sidewall. Hopefully he mends that. The vendor said 2.5 inches. well it's a little more than that just across the sunken base. If I can get this guy healed up and then fattened up he will be a true monster. I could see him easily swelling up to 4 inches across the disc. I also noticed two babies lurking in the crevices. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. I also ordered two from aqua sd. I checked their site on your recommendation and my pocketbook cried when I whipped out the credit card.

I have had nothing but great service from Will, in fact the last time around I got updated pics on everything he had to make sure they were healthy....

He didn't question why or anything just said "no problem" and a day later I had pics taken for me. I also got a heads up e-mail about them discounting all of their yumas before anyone or the site so I could pick what I wanted before the site was updated....

That was when I got the metallic red one...I am sure you will be happy with them, at least I hope you get as good a service as I have gotten. Will is real active on another site I can't mention here just because it wouldn't be the right thing to do and I have not seen or heard of a problem with his service....

If it's eating then it must be doing pretty good, I know I have had a few of them show signs of minstrel filaments and they have healed.....Hope all goes well and keep us updated.

DO Ricordea like stil water or medium flow and what is there light requirment .my tank is 700 cm (28)in with 150 and 250 w MH.

Kevan,

If they are Yumas then they like low light-med light but you need to acclimate them to your lighting.....As far as flow goes I have mine i about low/med to med flow and are doing great.

If the are Florida ricordea then they can take bright light and a bit more flow. But they to will bleach under to much light...

Will (AquaSD) has some high quality yumas. I have purchased many zoa and ric frags from him. I still don't have the guts to buy a $100+ yuma from him, but I like to stare at them when I'm at his store.
