New zoa death theory ??

when the lights came on today, i watched for a few minutes as the lights came on. to my surprise, my rabbit fish and foxface, once they woke up, were picking at my zoa rocks and i actually saw the rabbit fish remove a zoa polyp as after the bite, brown goo came out of it. is this normal and could this be a cause for the deaths. i want to try and catch the rabbit fish and see if anything gets better. i dipped the zoas this morning and saw nothing fall off execpt for a few pods and brittle stars.

what do you think??

There is no 100% reef safe fish. I had a foxface eat a long tentacle anemone once. It was not pretty and it was traded at AC the next week.

I know I'm an outsider, but I concur with Pickupman66, there is no such thing as a 100% reef safe fish. Some are less likely than other to nip/eat zoanthids, while others are more likely to consume them. Both fish, though not known for eating zoanthids, have on more than one occassion been caught eating zoanthids. There are many cases to be found via Google.

Keeping fish well fed goes a long way in keeping your fish away from your polyps. But a word of caution, once they have acquired a taste for your polyps, you have to remove them or the polyps. I can assure you with 100% certainty that you will awaken or come home to find most if not all of your polyps gone. It may not happen today or tomorrow, but unfortunately my friend, it will happen. Good luck with them.
