new zoos not opening

I had 11 zoa frags shipped to me, and received them yesterday. They were in transit for 2 days. Today, most of the polyps are still closed. A few are open, but the vast majority are staying closed. They were under Tek T5's in their old tank, and are under Tek T5's now. Is this normal for zoanthids? When can I expect them to open? How long does it usually take? Thanks.

yes , normal for that much ship time. i would reduce lighting and or run actinic more for a couple days or so. they will need time acclimate to their new environment.

Is there any sign of fungus and are they in good flow?? Even extreme flow is good for new polyps JMHO

Some are opening up more... they're looking a bit better, but some are still tightly closed. One frag has died. I'm very disappointed.

Sorry :( .

This time of year shipping with two day delivery is iffy at best. Don't know where your or the seller are located, but if it took two days odds are that at some point they were exposed to extreme temps.

Good luck with the rest of them ..........

Yeah, I know that now. The guy I got them from (Wickedfrags.com in Toronto) assured me it would be fine, even though I had concerns. It's my first reef tank, my first time ordering zoos... I feel I've been screwed and I'm not too happy about it. I spent close to $400. He told me people ship them in thermoses all the time and use 3 day shipping, no prob... told me they are extremely hardy... but now I know better!!!! I guess some things, you learn the hard way.
