first of all, please excuse me. i am just getting my feet wet. i want to start upping the macro capabilty of my Canon A620.

does it sound OK to start out with the Lensmate 52mm adapter and the Raynox DCR-250 Super Macro Filter? here are order pages for those two components:

..........and what are those wings coming from each side of the filter that i see on some listings but not others? are they necessary?

I have everything you listed except for the DCR-250. I went with the DCR-150 instead of the 250. I was not sure I really needed the 250. There are a few pics in my galley taken with the 150.

thanks. i had a look at those macro pictures in your gallery. they look nice. you have other interesting stuff in there too.

i wonder if anybody can comment on the difference between the DCR-250 and DCR-150(?). i also wonder about the 52mm Lensmate versus the 58mm. i will probably want to upgrade in the future for greater macro ability and wonder about compatibility differences between those two adapters.

my subjects will mostly be pinned insect specimens in the laboratory. some will be as small as 1.5mm.

sorry, this is a bump. i am anxious to buy these things and get started. i know that there were a couple of old threads on my camera, but i can never get the search function to work. so, does anybody else have experience with these components?

roger that. have you done much with it yet? i hope that somebody will chime in on the accessories questions.

It is my understanding that the 52mm is the most common lens and unless you already have 58mm lenses than I would go with the 52mm.

The difference between the 250 & 150 is the magnification I believe. I did not want to take super extreme macros only so I was told that the 150 is the better choice. I may end up buying a 250 as well just for fun.

Hope this helps!

great. thanks a bunch! içll go with the 52mm. since içm trying to capture shots of insects i will start out with the DCR-250.
