can anyone tell me or if there is an existing thread on this issue direct me there. I was wondering what the difference is in algeas. I have seen different peoples tanks and some people have a ton of green algea everywhere, on the live rocks, the glass and on their snails. Then I have seen a slimy looking brown algea in spots. Purple algea on rocks. Can someone clarify what is the good algeas? Should or can an aquarium be free of all that green algea. What are good things to buy to get rid of algea. Thanks for your help in advance.

Brown algae, comes off easy=diatoms=silicate in the water

Green algae hairy, hard to come off= Hair algae=phosphates and turbulent water flow.

Red slime algae, comes off in sheets=cyano bacteria=phosphates and nitrates

Hard calcfying algae in different colors= Corraline algae=low phosphates(.03 ppm or less)
