Newbie setup questions.. (dream?)

Hello all,

Just some brainstorming questions...

I've got a 5 foot tube of 8 inch diameter acrylic, which works out to a little less than 11 gallons.

What are the possibilities of using this as some kind of seahorse tank?

Assuming I could put some kind of rock work either suspended in the middle, or against the back...

I also assume I'd be restricted to the smaller species.

Also, what are the possibilities of connecting this tank to a larger setup? What are the concerns there? Would you be required to run UV?

Any recommended books on keeping seahorses/pipefish?

Thanks!

Sorry to say 8" diameter is too small for any seahorse species regardless of height. It would also be impractical for dwarf horses as well IMO.

Sounds like a seahorse elevator..... they would pass right by each other on the way up.."Hey you going back to the bottom??... Me I'm going up, see ya when I go back down".

There are ways to make bridges between tanks. It uses tubing like that but at the ends angles down into each tank...... the tops of each tank just have to be level. I saw a thread about it, the guys fish were using it, pretty cool.

One problem would be getting enough surface agitation to keep O2 levels up ... then getting the O2 down to the bottom where the horses would be most of the time.

Seahorses need high levels of oxygen.

My 2 cents.
