If that's the same gizmo as I have on the end of my Precision Marine skimmer, it's just a muffler for the air line so the skimmer runs a little quieter. Might hop on their website and dig through the manuals to be sure, though.

Some are mufflers I suppose but the one I have on my Euro Reef is designed to make the bubbles smaller and improve skimmer performance. The ones that we have on our skimmers are to muffles the air.
So I have a custom built skimmer with a needle wheel pump the air hose is so loud it over powers all of my pumps, fans, everything.... where do I get one of those mufflers..... IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY...........
you should be able to turn the top of it to adjust it(clock wise tightens it so less air in , counter clockwise loosens it so more air in). I have never heard it called a muffler before. I have seen them with a small amount of filter floss inside them before. I always thought it was in there to filter out dust and dirt particles that can be drawn into the skimmer.(sort of acts like a muffler) All that I have used have had the adjustment on it.you could go to most sites that sell skimmers and look in the parts area to find them.
My Coralife SS clearly has a muffler but the pic in the OP looks more like it has a valve feature. Why would any one want less bubbles? I would open it up all the way...
