Newish tank lost most fish

Hi, I'm very new to this world and have had a reef tank for about 6 months. Everything looked beautiful and healthy until I bought some new fish and within a few days I lost a large tang, then another and so on. Apparently the fish died from marine velvet. I only have a few fish left and am at my wits end. Do I need to empty the tank completely and QT the corals as well?

just QT the fish and leave the DT with no fish for 8 weeks. you should be safe at that point. just QT all incoming fish will help to reduce the chance getting velvet again.

my understanding is that velvet is quite nasty. unfortunately you learned a lesson about qt the hard way.
