Next step in my tank battle

For those of you who didnt know I have been battling some algae problems in my tank. It has cost me many frags/colonies.

I got tired of the battle so this was my next action....
I added 50# of new rock removed all of the old and scrubbed every inch of it. I then re-aquascaped the entire tank. 7 hours later the job is complete for now.

Here are a few picks of the tank, new rock and the surviving corals all of which have browned out during this battle. I know the color will come back. I have taken many steps to ensure the algae is not coming back, hope it all works....

Her are a few picks....not to great of quality but I didnt have much time

enjoy!

Your aquascaping is great! I like that archway.
Did you epoxy them together at all, or just carefully balance them? Good luck. :)

Thanks....
The archway is not yet bonded in any way...I still have not made up my mind about it....It was the last piece of rock and I really didnt have anywhere to put it because I liked the way everything looked as it was. It is actually very solid there and wont go anywhere. I was going for the open center look when I started. I think the valley down the center gives it a great front to back feeling of depth.

I like the rock work. Is the urchin new?

Did you ever take a pic of the old algae?

What did it look like?

It was 2 types

1) Standard old Hair algae that seemed to pop overnight....it was not a slow coming at all.

2) A bright green slime like algae that covers whatever is in its way...it is furious spreader if light is available and dies fast if no light is available.

Hope I have it under wraps now...I so want to get back to growing cool colonies.

I bought 2 urchins to help with the hair algae...they didnt...going to return them to adam.

The white pincushion urchins I got from adam love green hair algae.

Any clues on what got it going so fast?

No its a mystery to me....I am running limited lights now (4 hours MH) and Dr F&S phospure along with 2 cannisters of carbon and daily 15 gal water changes.
I am also skimming wet to pull more....only time will tell. Cant wait for the coraline to start encrusting the new rock...this stuff is going to look awesome when it encrusts.

You will have to come by and see it.....

the lfs here in cr recommended to me to have around 1 blue legged, red legged, or scarlet crab per gal, also a couple handfuls of turbo snails, a foxfaced rabbitfish, and a uv sterilizer.

Thanks Calebjk...

I have a lot of the hermits now...some of my snailes have died thru this incident...I will get more when I know that things are good enough to keep them healthy.

The Starfish is a Blue Linkia.

Snails usually kick off in ammonia spikes. Don't know though.

Is the tank healthy enough to start restocking?

I think it is but I am giving it a few more days and keeping a close eye on it...

not seeing any algae coming back yet....crossing my fingers....lol
