After getting a nice 24 gallon established over the last few years I managed to destroy part or the rear seam making modifications. Got a super sweet deal on a 6 gallon jbj, and when a bit nuts with it. Equipment list is as follows:
JBJ 6 gallon cube with the top rim removed (completely open top)
AI Prime is the sole lighting element (I really like this light so far)
AutoAqua ato
WP10 throttled back on a variable voltage power supply
Chiller en route, chill solutions thermo electric.
I have the AI prime on acclimate with colors (save red and green) around 38% and whites at 26% at peak ramping over a couple hours and peaking mid afternoon. The acclamation ends the 18th of Jan and Im shooting to have the lights near 100% on colors and about 39% on whites.
The majority of the sand is old, was from a DT from a shop in the bay area, and the rock is also nice and seasoned well before entering any of my systems. Up and going for about 4 months now.
The main priority for me on this build was maximum water flow and versatility in the lighting. The wp10 is pushing around 400gph (guesstimate with the lower voltage). So far the parameters are on point with zero algae blooms or fluctuations after the last month or so. Thought I would give some SPS a whirl I got a screaming deal to try and dial her in. The pink milli is getting "hairier" as I type this, have to love that.
Live stock includes:
Blue coral banded shrimp
A tiny ORA orchid dotty back (approx 1.25")
A peppermint shrimp that will be removed, was there to do some "weeding"
Random tiny hermits along with a small emerald crab
RKE spitfire zoas
Unknown zoas
Purple and green zoas
A neon green leather that is being re-homed.
Neon green stag
A pretty sps blob that Im in love with (the blue and green one =P )
Little Red plant frag
Bright pink and green milli
I still have to seal off the water from the rim with some plastic to polish the top edge with my dremel, it has a rough look to it. Also planning on building a cover for the rear chamber area to hide the cables/tubes. Probably just use some 18ga galvanized and krylon it matt black.
Standard routine of weekly water changes using Red Sea coral pro and 2 gallons of distilled every given Sunday.
Trying to get half decent pics of a the whole deal and closeups at the bottom are a no go with my iPhone 5s lol....maybe some more fiddling.
Here is what I managed to get of the tank...not much to look at but its a basic idea for a starting point.
(I tried like 30 shots at different angles to get these lol, once I go below the half way point down the camera cant handle the light!)
Stand is in progress atm and will be a form factor that matches the tank footprint weighted at the bottom made from 2x4 with a plywood skin painter to match the rear cover chamber and light. Still debating whether I want to throw a sump on it or just get a micro skimmer like the nano goby in the mid chamber. I know water changes are good, but I feel the elevated O2 levels are good for the overall well being.
Now to kick back and watch things grow! Thanks for reading
