i have a niger a pair of tomato clowns 5 green chromis and a frairy wrasse in my 40 gallon breeder along with a lot of blue leg hermits and astrea snails the tank is mostly sps i have never seen him nip a thing he wil eat nori from my finger tips they are planktivores in nature
60 might be pushing it. Forty is way to small. You could try it, but the smaller tank you keep a trigger the bigger the chance of it freaking out and killing everything. I once saw a Niger kill a full-grown Domino Damsel in a dealer 40-gallon tank. That Niger was the meanest fish I have ever seen.
Since they get over 10" (up to 1' or so to be exact), even the Live Aquaria tank size suggestion is wayyy too small. I would think they would need at least a 72x24x24 tank to be happy, but its just my opinion.
Full grown nigers are really imposing fish. A fair portion of the length is th tail streamers but they still pack on some size. I personally would not consider one long term in much less than a 180.

as long as there is an upgrade in your future within a year, i say go for it. there is no reason a 2-3" niger cannot live in that size tank for several months.
