Niger Trigger laying on bottom

I know that this is likely pointless but thought I'd at least give RC a shot. My Niger has been hiding and laying on its side at the rear bottom of the tank. This has been going on for over a week and I've had the Niger about 6 months. He shares the 75 gallon tank with an aggressive Maroon Clown, Regal Tang, Dottyback and a Goby. All other fish seem normal.

He looks more or less normal with the exception of some fraying of his fins due to other fish taking advantage of his compromised condition.

What would normally cause an otherwise healthy fish to start acting that way out of the blue?

Well, first thing you need to do is QT him because as you say the other fish are taking advantage of his compromised condition. This is just worsening his overall condition. As for what's exactly wrong with him, that's really hard to say. If you don't see any external symptoms (i.e. white spots) or if he hasn't twitched/scratched or something like that, then it could be anything really. Swim bladder is one possibility. You could treat him with some antibiotics in QT just in case it's some sort of infection. It's a shot in the dark but what have you got to lose other than the cost of the meds? It doesn't sound like he's going to last long in his current condition.
