Most folks seem to feel that these are one of the few "reef safe" triggers. However, I read somewhere that they do not do well with Madarin's in my tank. Is this going to be a problem????

IME they're by far the least predictable of the triggers. They have the widest bell-curve of behavior. I've seen some that were literally being picked on by firefish, and I've seen others kill large angels and clown triggers.
How big is the mandarin's tank? That would make a huge difference. A problem with that is that if you end up getting an aggressive one, the mandarin will probably be dead before you figure it out.
That tank is too small for a niger. They get much too large for that tank size. Its aggression would likely be magnified in a relatively smaller sized tank.
