Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel XT?

I am deciding between these two cameras and am getting one of them tonight I am leaning more toward the Canon so please let me know what you all think thanks in advance

If all you're comparing is those two cameras the Canon wins, hands down.


You should, however, go to the store and spend some time with both.

Thanks for your input beerguy I appreciate it.....I will be going to a couple stores and spending time with both of them plus my brother knows quite a bit about cameras and also said go with the canon, I just thought I would as you all to see what you think as you are the ones posting the amazing pics thanks again

They are both excellent cameras that will taken great pictures, when used properly.

The XTi has a little more room to grow than the D40. If you decide that the Nikon feels better or you like the controls there are other models that I'd look at over the D40, like the D70.

That being said, I carry a bag with two Canon bodies and a whole bunch of Canon glass.

I am very much a beginner so take my opinion lightely but we had to make the same decision a few nights ago. We went to Best Buy and played with both cameras for some time and decieded on the Nikon. Both seemed very impressive, we just liked the mechanics and feel of the 40D a little better.

But I would agree, if you have the extra $300 in you budget the XTi is sharp.

Note- I am asking about the regular Canon XT not the XTi I should have made that more clear sorry

The Canon still wins that matchup IMO. But both will take great pictures.

I got the Canon Rebel XT and once I figure the way to work it etc I will get some shots up thanks for the assistance
