NIkon D60

I'll second the Tamron 90. I picked it up used from KEH.com for $290. Check out my link below for some pics I shot with it - it's my first macro lens and I think it's pretty good.

Good timing on your post, I picked up a D60 about a month ago, and have been thinking about getting a macro.

He he he, yea that would be nice.

Was messing around with the lens that came with it, and while I could get some decent close ups, just wasn't good enough.

Yea, i am running into the same prob. Although i planned from day one to get a macro, just am not sure which to get yet. Tamron 90 is a great deal and it gets awesome reviews. but wont auto focus on the D60 unless it has the build in focus motor. (which im not so sure it does) But i guess how often would u auto focus when taking a macro shot?.... lol another stressful hobby!

the tamron 90 will NOT autofocus on it

most people dont use AF for macro shooting anyways

if AF is worth $300 extra dollars, then get the nikkor 105 VR AF-S for $759

the nikkor would be a better choice if you ever plan on doing hand held macro as well (due to the VR)

i.e. out on a hike, etc

but still, the tamron 90 is not to be considered "inferior" by any means

but for $300 you get
1. longer focal length (might come in handy for macro-ing live subjects that dont like you to be so close)
2. auto focus on every nikon camera (even D40 and D60)
3. vibration reduction (if you dont have a VR lens, then you wont understand how awesome the VR is)

so you have to decide what is most important to you

if you are thinking that you might get serious about photography, then (just like getting a bigger aquarium) you will undoubtedly get a bigger body someday, which will AF the tamron 90
