Hi all
I got my wife a D70 and want to know does anyone know what is the best setting to put the camara in to take those cool macro pics. I put it on the macro setting but it seems to want to focus on the glass not the corals/fish.
thanks
vince

first thing you'll need is a tri-pod. You'll probably have to set it to Shutter Priority (S) or Aperture Priority (A) to get the desired shots. Play around with your WB settings to get the color you want. It takes more time and practice than anything, and since its digital, shoot away all you want, it doesnt cost you anything if you mess up.

to get true macros from you camera, you would need a macro lens, however i do have a little trick i use since i dont have a macro lens

i keep my camera on eigther shutter priority or aperatue priority (i normally use aperatue priority)while taking tank shots, i then just play arround with the settings a bit till i get it the way i like, then i personally like to under expose my pics by -0.3 to -1.0, if they come out too dark i fix them in photo shop. then once i get the all the settings the way i like, i take a magnifying glass and hold it in front of the lens, then i just take the pic.

the only down side to using the magnifying glass is that the photos dont come out as sharp as possible, but it is not too niticeable, unless you are makeing poster prints

here is an example of a shot i took using the method explained above
