Nitrate levels???

I have noticed my nitrate levels haven't dropped to zero and I have had the package for 10 days now. My earlier readings indicate it has cycled but nitrates still remain around 15 ppm or so. This is even after daily water changes. I am using RO water and have a wet/dry without any bioballs in it. Should I get my levels down to zero before asking for the second shipment? Do you think my nitrates will eventually come down to zero? Thanks

Hey Kebs, mine did something similar for a couple days before the nitrates finally crashed down.

No, you don't need to have nitrates at zero.

Anything under 10ppm is fine for just about any livestock. 15ppm is fine for fish and hardy invertebrates (e.g. cleanup critters and hardier corals such as zoanthids, mushrooms, etc.).

Depending on stocking levels and feeding habits, your LR, LS, and macroalgae will slowly consume your nitrates.

Would a moderator please delete my duplicate replies? I had either an internet hiccup, or a MS-Windows hiccup (or both), and now, can't delete my own posts?

Thanks!

So do we have to keep our nitrates at zero

If your nitrates are at "0" you have a dead tank, there is always nitrate.......in the Gulf on our aquaculture site the nitrates are 30-45 PPM all the time......trying for a "0" value is unrealistic!

Thanks
