So Im looking into getting something to keep my nitrates down and Ive read nothing but wonderful magical things about the Korallin Nitrate Reactor

I was getting ready to buy and then a friend said, have you seen the ARID N18 Macroalgae Reactor? Supposedly it keeps both NITRATE and PHOSPHATE down... A

Anyone have info on these and can help me pick one?

I would recommend macroalgae reactor. It reduces no3 and po4 naturally and no media is needed. Just some chaeto and harvesting. While nitrate reactor need media and it needs to be change/top up. Best thing macro algae grows at the rate of available nutrient, and home for pods.

You may also want to consider algae scrubber vs chaeto reactor

I have the Korallin nitrate reactor and it works great.
After allowing it to prime you just set the drip rate and let it go

How often do you have to clean or replace the media?

I've only cleaned it once the media runs out or between tank moves. It's best to use Crushed coral on top and the media on the bottom to help PH stabilize

Ran a nitrate reactor in the past and liked it. Used an ARID but it sucked everything out, including micronutrients so had to dose more stuff, including nitrates. It was as C24 though when I only needed the 18.

Now the 4 inch Cermedia blocks seem to be doing it for me. If I had to choose between the two I’d go nitrate reactor. However, the ARID could also solve phosphate issues but you have to dose other stuff to ensure phosphates become the limiting factor. My opinion is that gfo and nitrate reactor are easier maintenance wise.
