No Growth

How old are the bulbs? single reflector or one per bulb? what ballast?
Any changes to the tank just before the browning?

My lighting is an AquaticLife fixture with three and a half month old bulbs. Each bulb has it's own individual reflector and it has an internal ballast of some sort.

I have been adressing the random flow by placing the powerhead so they shoot right towards the glass and deflect everywhere.

I had a long period of no growth as well and found out my alkalinity was low. Once I got it up to recommended levels the corals took off. Just my observation.

If you Alk is in check and has fluctuated much, +1 on the Magnesium.. I would check it to be safe. How are you doing calcium? If you're using a reactor or other dosing method, it's odd that your calcium woul drop like that..

As for your PH:
"pH: 7.8 (usually, except when I add buffer to raise it but that's a short term thing. I hate the low pH)"

My tank reads the same in the cold months because I am forced to close the windows and my tank is in the basement. After a few days of opening the windows, my PH goes up and my growth seems to take off on my tank.. Just an observation..

How old is your tank? Sometimes new tanks take a while before growth starts to take off throughout the tank. My personal experience is that as the tank approaches 9 to 12 months, thats when growth starts to take off providing your parameters are good.

If your corals are turning brown and your getting no growth it's most likely high phosphates. Also all blue lighting like that does not put out alot of PAR at all. Using a quantum meter your going to get no more than 200-300 at the surface . And below that your really pushing it. also if you have dirty water your PAR readings are gonna be much lower

My tank's almost two years old now. I'm dosing kalk through a slow drip dosage unit. The kalk really seems to be helping my low pH which makes me happy. I'm disapointed to hear about the lighting. I was told numerous times that my lighting would be adequate for my tank.

I think you have more than enough light on your system. T5s can grow anything these days.. With the Kalk drip, I think you're gonna start to see some great results. Just give it some more time..

How old is your tank? How long have you had the corals? You should keep a record of your parameters, stability can be more important than the numbers providing you are in the acceptable range.

If you are having large changes in PH one day, Ca another week, Alk another day, you could limit growth. If your tank is relatively new it takes time for the tank to stabilize and the corals to encrust, acclimate and take off.

In a mixed reef chemcial warfair can be a problem, do you run carbon, if not you should consider starting it.

Do you have any algae problems?

I think when in doubt do some water changes, especially in a smaller tank like 37G, maybe a couple of 5G water changes 3 or 4 days apart.
