No idea what this is...

I bought this as a Montipora, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. The polyps are the same size, but they can extend out nearly an inch. It almost looks like the tiniest Goniopora ever, but it doesn't have enough tentacles. Porites maybe? I have Veron's Corals of the World, and I couldn't find anything to match. Help!

Hey Frick, thanks! It definitely looks like the S. guentheri, especially in the photos showing the "variation in surface detail" from the Red Sea and the one showing the polyp extension. I have a little bit of skeleton left on the old frag plug, so I'll bleach it and see what it looks like.

So far it's growing really well...and the polyps are the most glowing-reddish orange I've ever seen on polyps so small. Any idea why it's not more common (if it is what I have)?

I think it is just naturally uncommon. It might have been mistaken for a Montipora the entire way from collection to your tank.
