Noise Pump Iwaki MD70

I picked up the Mag 12 today and its working fine.

I would still like an external pump that runs about the same gph but is not loud.

Thanks for the advice .

I wouldn't have got a Mag 12...A Ehiem 1262 moves about the same water with half the heat Half the wattage and probably 1/8 the noise.. Ocean runners are also great pumps.. From what I heard sanjay say they might even outperform Ehiems as far as heat and wattage are concerned..They are cheaper also..

MaxiJets aren't bad pumps.. They are tough as nails.. The biggest problem with them is they put out a ton of heat for the amount of water they move.. The 12s seem to be the worse. I guess its just cause they pull the most power.. They aren't bad, But like Tomoko said if wattage and heat are concerns then Maxijets might not be the best choice.. I use a few maxijets to feed my phosban reactors and a Skimmer, But for waterflow I think there are better options..

Sorry H@rry Maxijets are about the only pumps that last on that kind of wave maker.. The seio wave maker will work with prop pumps like the Koralia.. But they are a little $$$ Like 150 and I'm pretty sure they only control two pumps.. The idea is they never turn all the way off.. They just slow the pump way down the speed them back up..

Yesterday when I hooked it up it sounded fine but this morning it was loud. I have it setup in the garage so this morning all the doors are closed so no outside noise.

I am still trying to figure out the right combonations to make this work.

The Mag12 is not the pump I am planning on using I have put a 9.5 in and produced very little noise at all but I am still going to do an external pump as the final solution.

8Ball I live in Meridianville any way you could stop by an take a look at it for me.

Its probably just a mag 12s normal sound.. They tend to have a rattle/hum to them.. Any pump is going to be at its best the min you take it out of the box and plug it up.. After they get broke in is when they tend to make more noise... Mags I strange... I've had some just make a slight hum, But then you get another of the exact same madel and its twice as loud.. Even though the impeller and housing are in perfect shame.. You have to keep in mind Mags are made to be used in outdoor ponds.. So a quiet low heat pump isn't really needed for there intended use.. They are made to be low cost tough pumps.. And they are.. I've still got about 4 of them on the shelf I use for water changes mixing salt ect... Just don't run them on my tanks anymore ;)

OMG so many Typos in my post. Thats why you don't type and talk at the same time...lol sorry..

Shelby you could always check the pumps impeller.. If its a Very loud rattle sound it might be cracked. Very easy just remove the 4 screws around the intake to have a look. But really its probably just the pump.. Also it should have came with a peice of foam in the box.. Putting that on the bottem between the pump and the sump makes a huge difference in noise..

What ever you do, dont go with a "quiet One" pump, it uses very low watts but is so noisy. Thank goodness its in the closet.

You would think with a name like that it would be quiet.

Everyone seems to be having good luck with the Eheim so I think that is what I am going to order as the final pump (i hope).

Thanks for the help..
