Noise

What do you use to insulate the inside of your stand to minimize noise from pumps and water movement. I thought about styrofoam but not sure is the sound would just bounce off it and not be absorbed. Also what about the back of the stand, since it is open.

I drilled two holes in the floor of the living room and moved it all downstairs.

Took a little while to convince my better half, but after doing so, absolutely no question. Best thing we ever did.

The living room is dead quit. Of course, a larger return pump would be in order.

This is what I did to queit the noise from my pumps. I cut two pieces of vinyl tubing the lenghth of my pumps and attached them to the bottom of the pumps using pull straps. Here is a picture.

CAbbage, that's a great idea.

Airman, just noise in general. My tank will be in our living room and I'd want it to be as quiet as possible. I was just asking fro some ideas I could use while putting it together.

we have gurgling noises from our overflow boxes in our 210 reef. its in our livingroom so the whole neighborhood nows when were watching tv!!!

I searched www.mcmaster.com for sound absorbing foam
once I got that in, my cabinet was pretty quiet
(pg 3298, egg carton)

then I drilled 2 holes in the floor and moved everything in the basement
but probably not an option for Ocala FL

My sump rests on a sheet of closed cell foam (thinsulite). You can also afix it to the inside of the doors and interior cabinet side walls. It makes a big difference. I also use a filter sock on the drain pipe and another on the skimmer output.
