Noisey MJ1200

Does anybody know what causes a stock Maxijet 1200 to squeal and squawk when just using it to stir water in a brute can? Its done it twice and i'm afraid to leave it go and have it melt down in my RO water or my saltwater mix tank. I have 3 others that work fine. My temp solution was to yank it out and drop in one of the new Tunze 6045s i have. Does using a Tunze as a stir pump make you a reef snob???? Oh well at least its quiet.

Is it brand new? Have you taken it apart to make sure there is nothing jammed anywhere near the impeller?

6045 to mix SW.....You didn't have an extra vortech for that purpose?

The pump is almost new, i was going to run a mod kit on it but decided to use it to stir saltwater. I came home to it making a horrible squealing noise i could hear over all the other stuff running. If i had a Vortech it would be in the display, actually need 2 of them. Might just be a junk rotor, maybe i will swap it for one of the ones i replaced with mods and let it run in a bucket where it can't cause trouble.

I have heard them and other pumps make that noise when they get salt granules in them.once the salt disolves their fine.

I had the same condition with mj1200s and found that the power strip it was plugged into was the problem. I figured this out when I plugged in another new mj1200 in and it made the same noise. I plugged in the first pump directly to the outlet and had no noise. Replaced power strip and was fine. I don't know if this helps or not!
