I purchased a used Mag pump and I plugged it in today to run it and it's a bit noisy for my likings. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the noise? I kind of sounds like it's grinding.
The mag 7's seem to be loud. I have two and they are both loud. You can try to put a bead of silicone on the bottom of the corners to cut down on vibration noise and check all the screws. Thats about it as far as I know.
Mag 7s are just loud, try the Eheim 1260 and you will wonder if it is even on. I use my old mag 7 for a mixing pump now and when I hear it running I wonder how I put up with it for so long.
There are a ton of "noisy Mag7" threads. They are really noisy pumps. I tried everything to fix mine to no avail. I replaced it with an Eheim 1260. Not only night and day difference in noise, but I picked up a ton of flow too.
A cheap way to reduce the noise is to swap in a Mag5 impeller which converts the pump to a Mag5.
check to make sure that nothing is broken off the impeller or the face plate. My Mag 7 started making noise due to a chiped face place part....which threw the balance of the impeller off so it started rubbing.
