Not a total loss, but...

My tank crashed yesterday.

Not entirely sure what happened, but Whatever it was, took almost all my fish with it. As in everything except my mandarin and scooter.

This all happened so fast. When I went to bed Thursday all was well. I get up and go to work at 3am so I don't really pay any attention at that time of day.

The other half got home from work at 730 am and it was toast. Water looked like someone dumped jugs and jugs of milk in it, and all the fish were at the bottom of the tank.

Within the hour they were all dead...

I've pulled out all that I can find. There is an unaccounted for coral beauty somewhere. I can't find it.

Changed out 75 gallons of water today after a mad dash for more salt yesterday (LFS is an hour away).

The water is still hazy but I just finished. Will let the skimmer work for me over night and test the water in the morning.

My coral are all ****ed. I think they will be ok though, with the exception of some SPS and a leather.

Aside from that, all I can do is hope.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate event. If you find out what happened let us know. Would like to know for my future reference to help prevent future tank crashes I may have.

The only thing I can think of is a possible carbon overdose. I sugar dose, and when I got home yesterday and started checking things over, my skimmer wasn't working properly (as in hardly at all) so it wouldn't have removed everything I had put in. It was potentially like that for up to 4 days.

I'd run some carbon, or a carbon filter pad. Some corals will release toxins when they're mad and carbon will soak them out of the water. I believe leathers are known for that, but others do it too.
Also keep an eye out for ammonia, either from the unaccounted for fish, or any smaller things like worms and snails that might still be dead in there. It's nice to have some ammonia neutralizer on hand in case there is a mini cycle.
Sorry for your losses

If you had a carbon overdose then I would suspect an algae bloom. A rapid algae bloom will deplete oxygen in short order. This is one of the unfortunate possibilities when dosing carbon. I hope everything turns out OK, Good luck

I didn't really see an algae bloom with this. Nothing above normal growth that accumulates. This is pretty much all i can think of though that could have caused these issues.

I have been watching ammonia, and did have a spike fri afternoon. Also running carbon since then.

Sugar dosing is just another way to dose carbon (like vodka does) to keep your nutrients low.
