Not just locals losing tanks, SniperSPS bites the dust

Sorry to hear. But can you say generator?

I honestly can't see putting that much time, effort and money into a tank and not having some sort of back-up plan.

That is very sad. Hugo's tank was amazing. I just can't imagine of lossing priceless corals and fish. I hope we can learn from this tragedy and start planning on how to tackle this situation.
All of us reefers spend so much money, effort and time for our tank and I think it is a must we should invest buying a generator.
Maybe a group buy for generators?

I can't believe that he doesn't have some kind of back up plan either. The guy has a really nice tank w/ all expensive SPS and doesn't have a power generator??? Just sell couple frag of PM and it's enough to buy a nice generator. That's sad.

Most people don't have a disaster plan for their tanks. It usually takes a personal event to spur action.

Don't wait for group buys for disaster stuff - its all pretty cheap (penn plax battery air pump the comes on when the power goes off) 10 bucks, car battery inverter 50 bucks, generator you can find (well not right now) for under 500 bucks.

Thales,

I agree with Thales on this one. Many of us do not have a back up system for our tank. Many of us never thought of long power outages nor heatwaves. As I said earlier, we could all learn from Hugo's tragedy and start planning of emergency back up system for our tank. Surely, summer time is not over yet so I think we all need to be realist.

i have 2 generators as a backup plan. One has enough power to keep the entire tank going. thankfully they were not used this week as the heat was more then a problem for my tank. backup plans are a must.

i had the generator but it didnot really help me because i believed that they were going to get the electricity up and working and thats why i did not turn it on until the net day in the morning but the damage was already made

Hugo,

I am sorry to hear about that, bro. It is a sad day for me too. On my next trip to Socal, I will see if I have frags for you.

yikes, that's really sad. I'm sorry to hear that too!

A generator group buy would be nice. But definately get some battery pumps etc first =X

Didn't someone steal his PM???

So sad. I read the thread on the coral theft ... and now his whole tank crashes. In a twisted way, that Purple Monster was better off stolen. Isn't that brutal?

I just realized Hugo's in Westminster, I was down there last weekend and it was increadibly hot. 100+ degrees, and in the morning at around 9am on Sunday it was thunderstorming and raining at like 88 degrees. ***? I thought the world was going to end.

I believe he still have/had another frag or colony after that event..

I freak out when I lose power for more than 2 hours. My tank look like crap compare to Hugo's tank but if I lose everything over night, I would have to kill someone to release the anger. This is sad.. very sad..

yikes... I'll stay away from San Jose when that happens =X

but it's definately really depressing when all your hardwork goes to nothing because of power outages or other tank crash issues =(

Bummer Hugo! I guess the lesson for all of us is don't trust that the electricity will come back on until it actually comes back on.

Which is why I went for an inverter to run off my car rather than a UPS to power my tank even though PG&E gave a 5 hour window to when the power may be down.

Americans seem to be the only ones whom think it's THIER FRIGGEN RIGHT to have electrity provided to them 24/7, otherwise they call to arms . We're damn lucky to have such a stable power grid!!! How often does Baghdad have power on?

How often does Baghdad have power on?

a lot less often since we rebuilt their country..! but then again they are not being charged 1k a month either

I waited until my fish looked stressed and then cursed myself for not acting sooner... just went to an area without blackouts where they still had lots of generators and bought one. I had no PLAN, but it wasn't too hard just to react. If I'd been out of the area I would have been hosed though.

I'm going to work on a list of folks I can trust to hook up the generator if it happens again and I'm out of the area.

Peace
