not sure why my clown fishes are dying

I don't think nitrates of 40 and Ph of 8.4 is what is causing your deaths. People frequently let their nitrates go in FO, and my PH is stable at 8.4 and has been there since set up Jan 05. Are you having major PH swings? I know that can cause stress, but there is still an underlying issue you haven't caught yet. How are their appearances before dying(can clue you in to certain diseases), what are you feeding, salinity with refracto, and what are their tankmates? I just do NOT think those 2 water parameters are enough to decide a cause of death.

They all look nice and clear and then I start seeing white fuse on them. I was given a huge clarkii recently and today I came home to see him with white speckles on him. It's not ich. :( PH is between 8.1 and 8.4 the past few days. Maybe it has something to do with my ozone. I disconnected the ozone just now I"m gonna run ozoneless for a few days to see what happens.

my gf took all the batteries with her, I have no battery for my camera @ home. I'll get some tomorrow. Had someone over and he pointed out that it appears like velvet, but not quite.

Sounds like there may be some nasty bacteria living in the main tank at this point. I still have much to learn of fish diseases, but if you left the previous clowns in the tank after they got sick, whatever infected them is probably still in the tank, so anything new you put in there is getting infected with the same thing.

what's NH3? I'm schedule to do 25% water change every few days for the next week. I'm going to do this slowly until I reach 150% this should dilute a lot of the craps out of the tank.
