Hello everyone,

Today I got a new coral and as I was treating it with Coral X before placing it in my main tank a small creature fell out of it.

It looks like crab but it has this black stem on the head such as an add on accessory. I did 2 small videos with a USB microscope I got. (click on the image to play)

and here is a picture:

Have you got any idea what that might be???

Thanks in advance,

Dino

I know the crab is a decorator crab but that black stuff on it's head looks strange. Might just be some sort of closed up coral from the supplier's frag tank.

the Decorator Crab made itself a hat?!:bum:

Guys after 2 years in the hobby is the first time i heard the term Decorator Crab. I thought you were pulling my leg and checked youtube and found this clip that really made my mood:

Now question: Keep or Not keep?

I agree, sump it. They're extremely too cool to get rid of but are a little unsafe around fish. That exact species of dec crab caused the death of my scooter blenny and yellow angelfish when I had it.

Thanks for the feedback and your time. I did as you suggested :) Plus the more i read the more I get a confirmation on your suggestion. These creatures are cutting pieces from their surrounding to camouflage themselves. Dont want them nearby my 200 USD bleeding apple!

All the best
